Are e Cigs Healthier for the Environment?

The majority of smokers don’t think twice about tossing their butts out the car window or on the sidewalk before going into a building.  Oh! and landscapers and construction workers are the worst!  After you have work done, glance around the area where these “professionals” were just working.  Bet you’ll find 4 or 5 cigarette butts around. Despite the effort companies make, putting ashtrays by building entrances and sticking up a sign or two, people will always be lazy. Laziness and the convenience of a rolled down car window are what ends up polluting the streets with cigarette litter.

Electronic Cigarettes or E Cigs are less likely to be flicked to the street because when you’re finished smoking you put it back in your pack.  There is no “heater” to worry about starting a fire. No smoke, no stink, no stain going back into your pocket…just an non-littered ground and an electronic cigarette back in it’s pack ready to be used again.  Being reusable is another bonus to the environment.

Deforestation is a huge issue for regular cigarette manufacturers.  Millions of trees are destroyed every year to keep up with tobacco production.  If destroying trees isn’t bad enough, the tobacco leaf is also delicate and susceptible to disease. The use of chemical pesticides is widely used with heavy applications.  Chemicals such as Aldrin (an insecticide that has been banned in most countries) , Dieldrin (a chemical breakdown of Aldrin, which is an insecticide, also banned in most countries), Methyl Bromide (a pesticide pretty much phased out of use in most countries as of 2000), DDT (well-known insecticide) and many others.  These chemicals are harmful to our environment and extremely harmful to us when leaked into our drinking water and soaked up in our fat cells.  Remember, second hand smoke is just as harmful, if not more.

Thinking about the environment and referring to the photo to the right, you would rather regular cigarette smoke or electronic cigarette water vapor?  If that picture is water vapor, count me in as opposed to stinky, harmful, 4000 chemical carrying smoke. Most electronic cigarette companies are capitalizing on the fact that they bring, less butts as litter, to the table.  There is also a big buzz on how much cleaner the air quality is, not just for the smoker but for the friend standing next to them and the environment.
